The French Academy offers a variety of vibrant summer programs for children of different ages and skill levels.  These are some of the offerings.

For children 3 to 5 years old: immersion in French

In this program, children get to learn, have fun and be creative in French. These are some of the highlights of this exciting week.

  • Stories, stories, stories. Children discover a new character every week with enchanted stories they can read and read again. Every week a new theme will presented for children to be creative and have fun. Every Friday, a treasure hunt is held.
  • Songs and rhythms. Every day, music and songs reinforce the French language, and emphasize new vocabulary.
  • Science with that vacation feeling.
  • Science activities are fun… imagine a volcano eruption, or what you can do with magnets or water … Water to splash or to grow plants. Let’s grow seeds or let’s learn about living things and raise ladybugs!

  • Art and imaginationStudents get glimpse of European art. How to paint as if they were Cézanne, Monet or Picasso. Plus, many arts and craft activities and, of course, cooking, too.
  • Lots of exercise, tooThe perfect rhythm requires lots of physical activity, too. Dancing, games, ball and sports are a part of our day, every day.

For children 6 to 12 years old:

We offer seven weeks of exciting activities that will appeal to all ages. This is a fantastic opportunity to perfect French language skills while having fun, and learning through games or new experiences.

You choose three activities every week out of a choice of 5. All activities are listed below. Please check the registration form, page 4, to see which activities are available each week.

Visual arts

Nurture and develop the taste and artistic talent of your children, familiarize your children with an European cultural heritage and offer them the opportunity to paint “in the style of… This exciting week will start with the discovery and use of different techniques and materials and then enter the world of colors and shapes. Art will be presented through a chronological time line: Prehistory, the Lascaux caves, antique civilizations, Middle Ages, Renaissance, the impressionist movement (Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, etc.), cubism and modern painting (Picasso, Matisse, Miro, Calder, etc.).

Crafting Art

Promote the cognitive and manual development of your children by giving them the chance to participate an entertaining and timeless activity. Your children will develop spatial visualization, touch and imagination. Model making, 3D puzzles, construction and many others will be waiting for you to enjoy these moments alone or with others.

Puppets

Activity forgotten but coming back strongly in the modern educational approaches, puppets are an incredible tool of expression. Children can create their own puppet with objects of daily life to give life and imagine the extraordinary adventures.

Theater (in English)

Molière, La Fontaine, Perrault… True pillars of French culture, they have left their mark on their time and still continue to rock the imagination of our children. Tomorrow, your children will be at the center of these stories,  creating their scenery, costumes, enjoying the  extraordinary tales and playing in English.

Songs and dances of the Francophonie

The francophonie with 220 million French speakers and 75 countries provide a rich, fabulous and inexhaustible culture.  Your children will learn songs and dances from francophone countries to open up to other opportunities while maintaining a linguistic bridge to facilitate such openness.

They will visit strange and faraway lands,  from the majestic lions of the savannah to misty rice fields of Asia. An activity where the physical and cultural development work wonderfully well.

Language: Writing workshop or Conversation

To allow your children to practice French in a fun environment, we designed this more relaxed talking and / or writing workshop. The children will create their own story book based on their reading. (stories/cartoons). A creative educational method will be used to review all academics notions. They will improve their verbal knowledge and writing skills while having fun.

 Sports

Major activity of our summer program, sports will be present to the delight of your children. Ball games will be honored with the basketball, soccer, rugby and also the archery! All children will learn how it is important to exercise!

Cooking

A broad overview will be offered with desserts, ready meals, salads and so many other delicious things to taste … Made in France! The basics of nutrition will also be addressed to raise awareness of a healthy balanced diet.

Sciences

How to stimulate curiosity, observation, and problem solving for your children? We propose to give them their first tools to understand the world around them while developing their critical thinking.

They will discover the role of light and the water cycle and their biological significance. They will marvel at the crystal formation. They will assist with excitement to the eruption of their volcanoes. We will guide them in the production of their first electric circuit with an emphasis on the risks associated with this form of energy. And, to end up the week, they will have a mysterious disappearance…

Board games and brain teasers

Challenge your child’s mind! Use critical thinking and deduction to solve mysteries. The children will play strategy games to practice thinking ahead and come up with solutions. They will also use their social skills while playing Risk, Cluedo, Monopoly, etc. Board games allow  to combine pleasure and stimulation.
